Allow the ability to pay for property taxes, events and fines
Would like the ability to pay for property tax, fines (eg. parking tickets) online. But also the ability to pay for courses/events such as swimming lessons.

Hey Anonymous, being in the online service "service" myself, the fee is to pay for the infrasture behind making online services work. Do you think it's a magic button the city has created for free? Some how they have to pay for, just like companies do, so that's either a fee on the transaction (where only the user pays, which is fair) higer taxes (where all of us pay, not fair) or building it into the cost, where no one sees it, not very transparent huh. I would love to live in your world where everything should be free!

see parking permits purchase online comment below as well. should be able to buy my dog tag every year. been telling that to the city every year since they were sending people door to door to collect. no one listens to common sense ideas - what ever the city charges money for should be able to be purchased online. alos - I agree - dump the transaction fees! free wifi at facilities great idea, but actually try to pay the city money online - transaction fee. BAD business model

Brian, paying for parking fines can already be done online. Look for the "Online Services" button in the upper right corner of the city's home page. I agree that extending this convenience to other payments is a good idea. Note that when someone does pay online using a credit card, the city tacks on an extra $1.80 transaction fee. This seems both petty and punitive. The city should absorb this fee since the alternative is to either mail a cheque or to go to the service counter at City Hall to pay in person. The value of the human labour involved for these latter types of payment would exceed $1.80. Credit card processing, on the other hand, is automatic and would not involve any clerical labour at all. The city SAVES money by encouraging payment online even it were to eat the $1.80 transaction fee. It shouldn't lose $5 while trying to exact $1.80 from its taxpayers.
