Give newcomers a chance to learn about the by-laws before hitting them with fines.
I returned from China Canada to live in Waterloo on the 6th of August. A couple of days later my wife and I received parking tickets for leaving our vehicles on the road outside our driveway overnight. We had no idea that such a by-law existed. After visiting the City, I was told that, despite the fact there are no signs on our street, there are signs posted at key entry points to the city. Unfortunately, I entered the city at night after arriving on an overnight flight from China and was not alert enough to notice these signs. Apparently I have no choice but to go to court to contest the fines, totalling $75. I find this extremely offensive and quite frankly unreasonable. What a way to welcome newcomers to your city!
