enact a more efficient snow removal system for roads and sidewalks
I am a student living near the University of Waterloo, having lived in Toronto and Brampton, and been quite frequently to other cities in the GTA such as Mississauga, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville and Burlington, and I must say, the snow removal services in Waterloo are HORRIBLE.
I have witnessed many main roads being uncleaned and un-salted 6-8 hours after the last snowfall. The sidewalks close to the University area take DAYS to shovel. I have already witnessed 2-3 falls personally just in the first week of school in 2015.
My street, Lester Street (close to UW), sometimes takes a WEEK to be cleaned properly. Not only does this damage vehicles but it also puts both drivers and pedestrians in danger.
I have to say that these services in Waterloo are absolutely horrible. I've already avoided a major automobile accident on a MAIN ROAD this past week due to extremely icy and snowy roads (last snowfall was 12+ hours ago). For a city that is less than a quarter of the size than some of the other cities I mentioned (Brampton, Mississauga), I cannot comprehend how these services are so ridiculously bad.
